Room for new growth

Felling a tree frees space for many other important forest functions. Each tree harvested contributes to biodiversity, enriches local fauna and enhances sensible use of the forest as a recreational arena.

On average it takes about 70 years for a seedling to grow into a tree suitable for harvesting. Through sustainable logging, variation is maintained between young forest and mature forestry resources. Different plants and animals thrive in the various stages of tree growth; this is why  responsible forestry contributes to maintain a diverse local flora and fauna.

This is why future generations that will reap the benefits of us having chosen to work with wood as our most important raw material. The use of wood counteracts the many forces contributing to climate change, not just while the trees are growing in the forests, but throughout their lifecycle. We at Moelven are working with an amazing renewable resource. While this is something we should be proud of, at the same time we must continuously strive to find better ways to make use of each and every log.

The wood products that Moelven uses in its production processes today must
originate from a responsible forestry policy that accounts for all relevant environment concerns. All of Moelven’s sawmills are environmentally certified. This means that whenever forestry resources are harvested, consideration has been taken for animals living in the area, for watercourse that may be impacted, for cultural artefacts that must be protected and for surrounding plants and vegetation that must be allowed to live on.

We are conscious of our environmental responsibilities, and we are continuously striving to make improvements. Together we shall create a basis for responsible and sustainable growth.

Wood is the only renewable building material that is commonly available, and Moelven’s existence is based on the idea of sustainable development.
The company depends on new trees being planted when old trees are harvested – so that our grandchildren and their grandchildren will have a chance to develop our ideas further.
